Two Great Wolf Lodge trips close together made the comparison easy to feel. Williamsburg and Perryville both have the same broad promise: water park, activities, food, and a family-friendly escape. The details are where the stays started to separate.
What We Actually Did
We visited Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg in June and Great Wolf Lodge Perryville, Maryland in July. That gave us a fresh side-by-side look at the water features, dry activities, food, and overall layout.
Both properties delivered the basic Great Wolf experience. The question was not whether either one worked. The better question was which lodge fit which kind of trip.
What Stood Out
Williamsburg had the stronger water park feel for us. The wave pool felt deeper, the layout felt more natural, and the giant tipping bucket added the big centerpiece energy that kids tend to remember.
Perryville stood out more for dry activities. The indoor rope course, mini ten-pin bowling, MagiQuest, and mirror maze gave the stay more options when we were not in the water.
Food was consistently tasty across both visits. One small difference mattered more than expected: Williamsburg included slushies with the soda sipper cup, while Perryville charged extra.
The Plan
Williamsburg is the better fit if the water park is the main event. Perryville is a strong choice if your group wants more dry activities mixed into the stay.
For families, the best version of this trip is not trying to do everything. Pick the activities that matter most, build in downtime, and let the lodge carry the entertainment.
Tips We Would Tell a Friend
- Check online discounts before booking.
- Budget for MagiQuest if your group loves interactive activities.
- Bring swimming goggles for the water park.
- Pay attention to what is included with the soda sipper cup at each location.
- Leave room for story time, dance parties, and low-pressure lodge activities.
Would We Go Back?
Yes, but for different reasons. Williamsburg would be our slight favorite for water features. Perryville would be the pick when dry activities and indoor variety matter more.
